Two artists create abstract paintings that combine rigidity of structures underneath tranquil color fields. Subtle allusions to geometry draw the eye around activated points within alluring compositions. The work of both Virginia O. Roeder and Mimi Dolnick walk the tightrope of color interplay and maintain the joy of color as a daily inspiration. Reflections come to mind of the artist Richard Diebenkorn’s idea of “the feeling of strength in reserve – tension beneath calm.”
